Rogue Valley Youth Ballroom Dance Championships

Rogue Valley residents ages 10-25 are invited to compete for over $1000 in cash prizes! Learn all you need to know in an 8-week introductory class. Or, register independently through a Certified Instructor. Winners in the preliminary round will receive free instruction to prepare for the finals. No dance experience needed to get started! Ballroom dance has become very popular with teens and young adults in the Rogue Valley. This competition is your opportunity to get involved or show off what you know. USA Dance and Jeff Palpant, Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney want to share their love of dance with you. This program is designed to be a fun, rewarding and affordable entry into the world of dance competition for all levels.

Saturday, September 29 - 11:00 AM: Orientation Meeting
Learn about the dance competition and pick up your first few steps at this free introductory class. Open to ages 10-25. No dance experience or partner needed. Read more...

Saturday, September 29-Tuesday, November 27: Preliminary Training Program
This 8-week intensive will teach you all you need to know to participate in the preliminary round. Open to couples ages 10-25. No dance experience needed. Cost is $50/couple and includes your registration for the preliminaries. See Tuesday schedule. See Saturday schedule.

Friday, November 16: Deadline to register for the Preliminaries 
Registration is free for participants in the Training Program. Other students may register independently with the approval of a certified instructor for $20/couple. Registration includes entry for the couple and one adult chaperone.

Saturday, December 1 - 1:00 PM: Preliminary Competition
Steps for the preliminary round are limited to the syllabus laid out in the training program. Students may also learn this step privately or through their school programs with a Certified Instructor (see list below). No costumes are allowed for the preliminary round, but there is a dress code.
Category A (ages 10-13 or grades 5-8) will compete in Foxtrot and Swing.
Category B (ages 13-18 or grades 9-12) will compete in Foxtrot, Swing and Cha Cha.
Category C (ages 19-25) will compete in Foxtrot, Swing and Cha Cha.
Pre-registration is required for all competitors. See details above. Spectators are welcome for $5 at the door.

January 8-February 22: Finals Training Program
Finalists from each age category will receive free instruction with June Kranenburg to prepare for the finals. Category A dancers will learn a routine choreographed by June and compete together at the finals. Category B and C dancers will learn solo routines in the ballroom dance of their choice.

Saturday, February 23 - 7:00 PM: Finals
Competition is divided by age category. Costumes are recommended for the finals. There is a dress code. Dancers compete for over $1000 in cash prizes. Spectators are welcome for $5 at the door.

Certified Instructors:
All participants for the preliminaries must be signed off by a Certified Instructor. The steps allowed in the preliminary round are limited to a particular syllabus. Certified Instructors can teach you this syllabus privately, in group classes, or in some school programs.
